Hello fellow Darklands enthusiasts! In this package you'll find two Microsoft Word 7.0 files: * dktowns.doc * dkpotion.doc We put these sheets together to save us a lot of time while taking notes in our Darklands games. All you need to do is print out a copy of the documents once per game, and keep it handy as a reference to your gameworld. Below are brief descriptions of each file which will explain the intended use of these files. DKTOWNS.DOC ----------- This file consists of lots of tables--one for each town on the Darklands map (note that villages are not included). Each table has several sections, which are explained below: * The first page of the file is a city index identical to the one on the Darklands map. When we have visited a town, we just highlight the name on the index so we can see how much we've discovered. Not nearly as useful as the tables in the rest of the document, but we like to know where we've been. * The first section of each table lists all the alchemical ingredients. When you first enter a town, just highlight (or circle, or check off--whatever you prefer) each ingredient which is for sale at the Foreign Trader and the Pharmacist. If you do this each time you visit a town for the first time, soon you'll have an invaluable list which will allow you to gather the necessary materials as quickly as possible! * The second section has four slots where you can write in the names of the saints available for study in that town. This can really be useful if later in the game you realize you need a saint that, for instance, dispels demons. Just glance over this section and you'll know exactly where to go to learn about that saint! * The third section has four slots where you can write in the alchemical formulae available in that town. We usually write the name and quality as "Breath of Death 35" but do whatever works for you. * The fourth section allows you to note the quality of equipment in the town. There are sections for Swordsmith, Armorer, and Bowyer/Fletcher. We generally just write a number next to each after looking at the inventories for each craftsman--this can be very helpful later when you have a lot of money and are ready to upgrade your equipment! * The final section is for miscellaneous notes. There is a space for Physician Skill (such as "Modest" or "Idiot") and a section for Philosopher's Stone. Also, in towns that have a university, we have a University space. In this space, we generally write down all the skills (such as Religion or Healing) that the university can teach. That's it! If you take a moment to fill in this info (especially the alchemical ingredients) when you first visit a town, it won't be long before you start to reap the benefits of all the saved knowledge! DKPOTION.DOC ------------ This document consists of several tables--one for each alchemical potion in the game. A brief description of the potion's effect is at the top. Each potion is is broken down into the 25, 35, and 45 quality varieties--both the name and number are listed. For example, in the Sunburst table, you will find an entry that has "25 African" indicating that African Sunburst is 25 quality. Finally, all of the necessary ingredients for each potion are listed. We generally just highlight the name of the potion once we learn a formula, and then we highlight the quality (25, 35, or 45) to indicate which varieties we have learned. You can cross reference the ingredient list with the ingredients in DKTOWNS.DOC to quickly determine what you need and where you must travel to obtain it. Hopefully some other Darklands fans like ourselves will find as much value from these little "cheat sheets" as we have. They allow us to minimize our notetaking and spend more time fulfilling quests and becoming famous. Have fun! David and Ally Stallard August 12, 2000
