UPDATED 01/2000 Originally written by Steven J. Cotellesse for DOS, this version (1.0) was modified and recompiled by Michael Petzold to work with Windows 95/98. DKSORT.EXE is the updated DOS version that will run in a DOS box and DKSORTW.EXE is a new Windows console version. DKSORT is a utility program to sort your Darklands save game files so the load save game list in the game will appear in chronological order. IOW, run DKSORT before starting the game and the save games will appear starting with your most recent save. Invaluable if you have more than 9 save games! IMPORTANT: COPY DKSORT INTO YOUR DARKLANDS DIRECTORY! Do not put it in your save game directory. Make sure DKSORT is in your Darklands directory (C:\MPS\DARKLAND if you used MPS's default). To sort your saved games type DKSORT What it really does: DKSORT reads the names, dates & times of your saved games in the .\SAVES subdirectory. It makes copies (backups) of your saved games to your Darklands directory (it checks to make sure you have enough disk space). Then it sorts the names by DOS date & time that the files were saved. It deletes the saved games from the .\SAVES subdirectory and copies the backups in chronological order (most recent save first). It then deletes the backups. If it encounters any problems, it immediately terminates leaving the backup copies in your Darklands directory. Since the backup copies aren't removed until it finishes rewriting the files back to the .\SAVE subdirectory, this should be pretty safe if it encounters an error condition or even if you lose power in the middle of it. As with all utilities of this type, use it with care. Back up your save games onto floppies now and then, especially before the first time you use this program. It's worked well for me and should work well for you. Just make sure DKSORT IS IN YOUR DARKLANDS DIRECTORY (not the saved games subdirectory). Questions or comments may be directed to Steven J.
